Psalms 105:15 (KJV)
Saying, Touch not mine anointed, and do my prophets no harm.
The Treasury of Scripture Knowledge traces this verse back to,
Genesis 26:11 (KJV)
And Abimelech charged all his people, saying, He that toucheth this man or his wife shall surely be put to death.
The context, I would think, agrees.
It is obvious that King David not only knew the Word of God but saw and made personal application to his own life.[1]
He took a principle that would have to be stretched some to apply to his case with Saul, but he made the application and stuck with it. And that:
- Despite the great difficulty it created for himself
Despite the prodding of his own men and
Despite that apparently, God has given him an opportunity to touch the Lord’s anointed
I commend David and I urge believers to use the Word of God in much the same way.
You will be challenged by people who say you are misusing the Bible to your own hurt and the hurt of those you love and are supposed to care for. Stay true to what you understand the Bible to teach unless and until you are convinced otherwise.
[1] 1 Samuel 26:11 (KJV)
The LORD forbid that I should stretch forth mine hand against the LORD’S anointed: but, I pray thee, take thou now the spear that is at his bolster, and the cruse of water, and let us go.
1 Samuel 26:16 (KJV)
This thing is not good that thou hast done. As the LORD liveth, ye are worthy to die, because ye have not kept your master, the LORD’S anointed. And now see where the king’s spear is, and the cruse of water that was at his bolster.
1 Samuel 26:22-23
And David answered and said, Behold the king’s spear! and let one of the young men come over and fetch it.
The LORD render to every man his righteousness and his faithfulness: for the LORD delivered thee into my hand to day, but I would not stretch forth mine hand against the LORD’S anointed.
