Psalms 123:2 (KJV)
Behold, as the eyes of servants look unto the hand of their masters, and as the eyes of a maiden unto the hand of her mistress; so our eyes wait upon the LORD our God, until that he have mercy upon us.
I am at our annual church camp out today. The occasion means that my dogs go on many walks on a leash. That’s not something that happens a lot at home. As we walk around the park, both dogs keep a watchful eye on me. Of course, they each have a will of their own and they pull the leash if I allow them. But they know I also have a plan so, as we walk, they keep an almost constant eye on me.
- How fast am I walking?
- How pleasing is my facial expression?
- Which direction am I turning?
- What instructions am I giving?
They have a will, but they know, especially with the leash, I am in control.
Now we should always have our eyes on the Lord. But these are unique days. It would not be wrong to think of the circumstances of the Chinese Covid-19 and the surrounding governmental edicts, as a sort of leash. We, in the United States, are tethered more than we have been in centuries. The government thinks it is in control. We who are Christians know better. These are good days to keep our eyes upon the Lord, “until that He have mercy upon us.”
