Luke 1:10 (KJV)

And the whole multitude of the people were praying without at the time of incense.

Zacharias’ lot, duty; the role that he played in the worship of the Lord, was to burn the incense in the Temple of the Lord. This altar of incense where Zacharias served, represented the prayers of the saints rising up to the Lord as a sweet smell. 

Fascinating, isn’t it, that as Zacharias burnt the incense “the whole multitude of the people were praying”? Picture the minister of the Lord facilitating worship but not the only one involved in worship. 

This seems to clearly teach what ought to happen at every service in the house of the Lord. The pastor, according to Ephesians 4[1], equips the saints for the work of the ministry. At church:

• 
  
  One leads in prayer but the whole multitude is to pray
• One leads in singing to the Lord but the whole multitude is to join in the song
• An offering is received and the whole multitude is to give unto the Lord
• A preacher declares the word of God and the whole multitude is to hear and do as the message teaches

The church is a body, a whole. It is complete participation with each one fulfilling his or her place in that body.
