I contend that, first of all, this passage must be kept in the local church setting. We cannot, we must not, receive any and everyone regardless of doctrine, practice, or attitude. Separation is a biblical value.
On the other hand, within the local church, when one is received there because of like faith and baptism, it is essential that the entire body receives the one who has been received.
Notice how we are to receive them, “as Christ also received us.” Just as we are to forgive as God has forgiven us, so we are to receive as Christ has received us.
- We learn how to receive,
- We learn the means to receive, and
- We learn why to receive
all in this simple verse.
