But the other of love, knowing that I am set for the defence of the gospel.
When I first think of the word set, I think, “ready, set – hike.” I think: positioned, prepared, determined. Actually, this word has to do with “being appointed” by God. It was God’s plan, God’s will, God’s determination, and not Paul’s that had set him for the defense of the Gospel.
Here is a great key to the strengthening of the Christian faith. We have to come to the place, have to disciple others to the place, that we are sure that our faith in the gospel and our defense of it is the will of God and not their own.
- The Christian is saved by the will of God and not their own
- The doctrines we hold are the will of God and not own own
- The preacher is called by the will of God and not his own
- The ministry we have is in the will of God and not our own
We are set where we are, wherever we are, according to the will of God and not our own. Let us, therefore, hold fast.
