If ye then be risen with Christ, seek those things which are above, where Christ sitteth on the right hand of God.
There is, in the world of technology, this formula, “if this then that.” If this one thing is true, then they write in the rule that this other thing must be true also. What follows is that if the second is not true we have proof that the first isn’t either. That’s what Colossians chapter three proposes. If a person is risen with Christ, then all that follows must be true.
We use the term “if” as more of an indefinite. It might or might not be. I think the context of the passage indicates that, in this case, it is being used as more of the definite “since.” It would not hurt us, however, to consider it in the indefinite, “if this then that.” If what is found in Colossians three is not our testimony, could it be that we are just fooling ourselves that we’ve been risen with Christ?
The key isn’t to try harder to make these things our testimony (if they aren’t) but to come to Jesus and be sure He has saved us.
Those who are truly risen with Christ will grow, increasingly, into this testimony.
