And the lean and the ill favoured kine did eat up the first seven fat kine:
And when they had eaten them up, it could not be known that they had eaten them; but they were still ill favoured, as at the beginning. So I awoke.
In Pharaoh’s dream, the seven years of plenty did not ease the seven years of famine. They had spent all they got as fast as they got it so that, when the famine came, there was nothing left to help them.
Seven years of plenty would not make seven years of famine seem worth it. To have lived well seven years would surely be forgotten in the middle of the seven years of famine. Hell is like that for those who go there. No amount of pleasure in this life will make one day of hell worthwhile.
I am struck, however, that the dream did not come literally true. There were seven years of plenty, and there were seven years of famine. But there was no damage due to it. God had warned them, God had provided an answer, and the Pharaoh was wise enough to apply it.
God has answers. The question is whether we will apply them.
