And the priest shall dip his finger in some of the blood, and sprinkle it seven times before the LORD, even before the vail.
I have always understood that the animal sacrifices were offered at the entrance to the court of the tabernacle and taken from there by priests to the various places inside the tabernacle area. Leviticus chapter four indicates at least three places the sacrifice might be offered:
The door of the tabernacle
Vs 4
In the place of the burnt offering
Vs 29
Before the Lord
Vs 15
Our passage defines that place before the Lord as “even before the vail.” I do not know if this means that there were animals actually killed inside the first room of the tabernacle, but it does seem to be so. The point that matters to me is that the Bible defines for us what it means to be before the Lord. The vail separated the two rooms of the tabernacle and later the temple. It was this vail that was rent in twain at Jesus’s resurrection, signifying that He had made a way for us to approach God.
To be before the Lord would indicate a specific place and a specific event. We are before the Lord in His house, the church of the living God, having received His gift of salvation through the gospel of Jesus Christ.
