Deuteronomy 1:43 (KJV) A Presumptuous Sin

Deuteronomy 1:43 (KJV)

So I spake unto you; and ye would not hear, but rebelled against the commandment of the LORD, and went presumptuously up into the hill.

The thing that they presumed to do was the very thing that God had previously told them to do (but they would not). Their presumption was that they could do what God wanted them to do without following the direction of Moses. They had disobeyed Moses in refusing to enter at Kadesh-Barnea. Here they disobeyed Moses in entering there against his counsel. The price was destruction. They were chased out as if by bees. 

Not everyone died, but many did. The survivors came home weeping before the Lord. But they had lost the ear of God through their disobedience. We learn in the Book of Hebrews that this whole episode was a lack of faith. 

And so it is today. Some, maybe most, presume to serve God. They have heard before what the will of God is, so they choose to do that, only without the direction of a man of God. It’s why so many Christians gadabout from place to place. It’s as if a tiny bee is all that is required to run them off. They may survive their lack of faith and obedience but:

• They will lose many of their loved ones 
• They will come home weeping and
• They will lose the ear of God in their prayers 

This lack of faith is devastating our land right now. How we need Christians to repent, turn to the Lord, connect tightly with their local church and live out their faith there.
