Now Korah, the son of Izhar, the son of Kohath, the son of Levi, and Dathan and Abiram, the sons of Eliab, and On, the son of Peleth, sons of Reuben, took men:\
And they rose up before Moses, with certain of the children of Israel, two hundred and fifty princes of the assembly, famous in the congregation, men of renown:
Of these men, chosen by Korah, Dathan, Abiram, and On, they were:
Many
Two hundred and fifty of them. That’s not a huge amount given the size of the congregation of Israel, but it’s no small number either.
Leaders
These were princes of the assembly. They were likely not royalty as we commonly think of princes, but they were important people.
Talented
They were men of renown. They were known among the people, probably for some skill or accomplishment.
They were such as believed they deserved some of the prominence of Moses. They had grown restless in the wilderness, weary of waiting for God’s promises and forgetful of their own recent lack of faith. Somehow, they believed they could improve the circumstances of everyone if they took some of what God had given Moses off his hands.
They were wrong.
