But the firstling of a cow, or the firstling of a sheep, or the firstling of a goat, thou shalt not redeem; they are holy: thou shalt sprinkle their blood upon the altar, and shalt burn their fat for an offering made by fire, for a sweet savour unto the LORD.
God was gracious.
He claimed the firstborn of both men and beasts to be His. They belonged to Him to be used as He saw fit. In grace, He gave parents the law of redemption. He instructed them to redeem their firstborn and keep them to be raised as their own.
I believe that every Mosaic law, especially those having to do with sacrifices, points to Jesus. The interesting thing is that Jesus, who is the only begotten Son of God and obviously His firstborn, should have been redeemed, but was not.
Jesus was not redeemed so that we, you and me, claimed by the Devil, could be redeemed from our slavery and set at liberty before the Lord.
