And Balak said unto Balaam, What hast thou done unto me? I took thee to curse mine enemies, and, behold, thou hast blessed them altogether.
Balak made a number of mistakes:
He held ought against Israel instead of befriending them- He assumed God could be bought to do his bidding
- He misapplied the power at work as belonging to Balaam and not God.
(This is the common misunderstanding in our world today. The plain fact is, most disregard God, and only see the men who serve Him.)
It was God who blessed Israel. The very same God would have blessed Balak and his people, if only they had turned to Him. Resisting the children of God meant resisting the God of whom they were children.
Resisting God eventually led to the utter annihilation of Balak’s people.
