When ye go, ye shall come unto a people secure, and to a large land: for God hath given it into your hands; a place where there is no want of any thing that is in the earth.
It is easy to dislike leadership. Right now, it seems especially easy. The last two leaders of what we like to consider “the free world” have been opposing ends of the pendulum. (I will confess that I favored the end not in office today.)
Americans are a freedom loving people. We live in a land of plenty. Opportunity abounds here. Let us be, and let us pursue it! Our government is “of the people and by the people.” We like as little government as possible.
But, as the Zidonians discovered, it is neither wise nor safe to live carelessly and without a magistrate to “put them to shame in anything.” The reason? Because there is always someone willing to take what we have from us.
The Zidonians lived carelessly, confidently and with plenty.
The Danites were more than willing to take it from them.
Government may have some annoying qualities. But it is necessary and therefore, so is our support of it.
