But the Philistines took him, and put out his eyes, and brought him down to Gaza, and bound him with fetters of brass; and he did grind in the prison house.
It was the Philistines who put out Samson’s eyes, but he had been blinded by way before this.
He had been blinded to biblical separation
Against the teaching of the Bible and against the pleading of his parents, he wanted a Philistine woman to wife. The relationship ended badly, and he lost her as his own. I believe this set off a series of other “blindnesses” in him.
He was blinded with a sense of bitterness
Having lost his love, he lost a heart for right. This set him up for multiple immoral relationships which, in turn set him up for his eventual fall.
He was blinded toward the source of his strength
There came a time when he assumed he would be as strong as before. He wist not that the Lord had departed from him.
The physical blindness at the hands of the Philistines was minor in comparison to the other forms of blindness.
The Philistines were a symptom.
The cause went far deeper.
