Mark 11:18 (KJV) Is That Fear?

Mark 11:18 (KJV)

And the scribes and chief priests heard it, and sought how they might destroy him: for they feared him, because all the people was astonished at his doctrine.

What is often thought is anger is really fear. The scribes and chief priests sought to kill Jesus, not because they were angry with Him, but because they feared him.

The Bible repeatedly says that this is also why Saul wanted to kill David.

1 Samuel 18: 12 (KJV)
And Saul was afraid of David, because the LORD was with him, and was departed from Saul.

1 Samuel 18: 15 (KJV)
Wherefore when Saul saw that he behaved himself very wisely, he was afraid of him.

1 Samuel 18: 29 (KJV)
And Saul was yet the more afraid of David; and Saul became David’s enemy continually.

This does not change the consequences, but it does provide some understanding.

Do the right thing. Do it regardless of the consequences and responses.

Heavenly reward awaits
