Now these are the things wherein Solomon was instructed for the building of the house of God. The length by cubits after the first measure was threescore cubits, and the breadth twenty cubits.
We’re told that the construction began in the fourth year of Solomon’s reign. Consider:
- He was an experienced sovereign by this time
- He had God give wisdom
- He was a powerful leader in his own right
No one could have made him build the Temple. No one alive could have required him to follow any instructions. His father, David, was long since in the grave.
Yet Solomon built according to the instructions he was given.
No wise leader abandons the instructions he has been provided. Only a fool ever comes to the place where he will not learn from others, even from those who no longer have authority over them.
