Job 36:16 (KDP) The Ultimate Legalist

Job 36:16 (KJV)

Even so would he have removed thee out of the strait into a broad place, where there is no straitness; and that which should be set on thy table should be full of fatness.

Health, wealth, and prosperity preachers are the ultimate legalists.

Young Elihu reminds me of a prosperity preacher. He insisted that if Job had been as right before God as the Bible says he was, then God would have protected him from problems and filled his banquet with rich foods.

Prosperity preachers frequently practice very little in the way of standards of separation. But they are legalists in the sense that they drive people to perform. If a person is not well off or has some sort of affliction, they must be in sin, and that sin ought to be rebuked. The oppressed believer is cast down and out as having little faith. People in this state pretend to be something they are not to make a show for their prosperity pastors and contemporaries.

A person who is trapped into making himself look like something he is not is in the worst sort of legalism. Remember Ananias and Sapphira?

The church that encourages and condones such pretense is the ultimate legalistic type of church.
