But God will redeem my soul from the power of the grave: for he shall receive me. Selah.
Here is the important difference between the created animals and the believer.
The beast just dies and perishes[1]
The sheep, an important animal for mankind, merely dies and is laid in the grave.[2]
Even the man who is not a believer dies and is left like the beast[3]
But of the believer, the promise is that God will redeem our soul from the power of the grave. The body of the believer is no different from the beast, but the soul of the believer is another matter.
The redemption of their soul is precious …[4]
[1] Psalms 49:12 (KJV)
Nevertheless man being in honour abideth not: he is like the beasts that perish.
[2] Psalms 49:14 (KJV)
Like sheep they are laid in the grave; death shall feed on them; and the upright shall have dominion over them in the morning; and their beauty shall consume in the grave from their dwelling.
[3] Psalms 49:20 (KJV)
Man that is in honour, and understandeth not, is like the beasts that perish.
[4] Psalms 49:8 (KJV)
(For the redemption of their soul is precious, and it ceaseth for ever:)
