Therefore thus saith the LORD concerning the prophets that prophesy in my name, and I sent them not, yet they say, Sword and famine shall not be in this land; By sword and famine shall those prophets be consumed.
I recently read a piece by a man appealing for pastors and Bible teachers to quit “attacking” others of dissimilar faiths. While his own statement of faith is sound, he begs Bible teachers to stop the disparaging words about others. He goes on to name some of those targeted and attacked as:
- Liberals
- Pentecostals
- Catholics
- Prosperity Gospel
- Etc
The writer claims to now be a longstanding member of a Baptist church but says that, in days gone by, he has been a member of a Pentecostal church, a Presbyterian Church and etc. He says that while he has come to disagree with these churches, still they are part of God’s work on earth and, as such, ought to be supported rather than condemned.
Jeremiah would have disagreed.
In fact, the God who gave Jeremiah his message disagrees.
One of the great troubles of our day is that we are too timid with truth. We treat it as relative. What we have come to believe is true does not, in so many minds, mean that someone else’s view of truth is wrong.
That’s just not true.
Truth is so true that anything, but the truth is wrong.
Someone, at some time, must be willing to say that the message of those who preach “another gospel” did not come from God and will lead to judgment.
