Wilt thou judge them, son of man, wilt thou judge them? cause them to know the abominations of their fathers:
The elders had come to enquire of the Lord before Ezekiel. God’s first word was that He would not be enquired of them. Then God turned his attention to Ezekiel and cautioned him not to judge them. That was not his function or place.
- God had already made a judgment against the elders of Israel
- Ezekiel was not to judge the elders of Israel
Ezekiel was to preach and declare the word of God, including His judgment.
Our world has forever been twisted on this matter, and I do not believe it will get any better. Those walking away from God’s will never appreciate hearing that this is what they are doing. Whether they receive and whether they get angry is not the point. It is the preacher’s duty to tell them.
It is not the preacher’s duty to judge them.
I read that John Quincy Adams’ in his lifelong battle against slavery, once said, “the duty is ours, the results are God’s.”
That applies in a great many fields of life.
