Acts 8:9 (KJV) He Listened to the Gospel

Acts 8:9 (KJV)

But there was a certain man, called Simon, which beforetime in the same city used sorcery, and bewitched the people of Samaria, giving out that himself was some great one:

The account of this Simon the sorcerer is a lesson for all the influential of the world. Simon’s influence had been threatened by the gospel. Instead of attacking the gospel he listened. I see his story like this:

Simon believed and was baptized
His conversion appears to be genuine.

Simon was tempted

I think it ironic that this temptation happened not from the ministry of Philip, but Peter and John. Sometimes an itinerant preacher can shake loose something in a soul that the pastor cannot.

Simon was rebuked
Peter had himself been harshly rebuked of Christ. He was not hesitant to do the same when necessary.

Simon submitted
He did not grow angry or hardened by the correction. He turned from his sin and sought the help of the preacher to restore fellowship with God.
