Many shall be purified, and made white, and tried; but the wicked shall do wickedly: and none of the wicked shall understand; but the wise shall understand.
There are a couple of key lessons in this verse and the one just before it. As a pastor, I have learned that these two things frequently come up among the Lord’s children.
On the first, we don’t have the blessing of understanding everything.
Daniel 12:8-9 (KJV)
And I heard, but I understood not: then said I, O my Lord, what shall be the end of these things?
And he said, Go thy way, Daniel: for the words are closed up and sealed till the time of the end.
Daniel wanted to understand what he did not. God’s answer was simple, if we will receive it, “Go thy way.” Rather than fretting over what we do not understand, move forward with what we do. This does not mean we stop trying to learn. We just do not obsess over what we do not.
The second is like unto it; the wicked do not understand the Word of God.
This can be such a frustrating and then heartbreaking experience for us. We long for them to. Those things we see in the Word of God seem so obvious we believe they ought to be obvious to everyone. It is not.
The answer to this is found in Daniel 12:12 (KJV)
Blessed is he that waiteth, and cometh to the thousand three hundred and five and thirty days.
The verse speaks of the Tribulation, but the answer is still the best one – blessed is he that waiteth.
Wait on the Lord. Trust Him alone.
