For ye are yet carnal: for whereas there is among you envying, and strife, and divisions, are ye not carnal, and walk as men?
I prize manliness in men. I view it as:
- Providing
- Protecting and
- Piloting[1]
A man should be a hard worker, an able leader, and a capable defender. He may have and should have a tender side, but he must have the toughness to fulfill his responsibilities, or society will fall apart.
But in this case, the Bible speaks of when manliness is no longer a virtue. There is a sort of manliness the Bible condemns. It is carnality.
Mark that this carnal man is not a natural man. That has its own issues. This man is a Christian, but he is worldly, petty, and knows little of God’s Word or God’s way.
Manliness is to be prized. But only when it is found in a spiritual man.
