And it shall come to pass in that day, that I will seek to destroy all the nations that come against Jerusalem.
The phrase “in that day” is found at least six times in Zechariah chapter twelve.
- It’s prophetic.
- It’s hopeful.
- It’s awful.
Mind you, many of the things prophesied in the chapter have yet to be fulfilled. The Jews still look for a day when “the house of David shall be as God.” It was fulfilled in part by Jesus’s first coming. It finds its completion in the Millennial Kingdom.
Some may consider hope for the future weak-mindedness. But the Bible teaches and the Christian practices a happy life today because of God’s promises in the future.
- It is not weak to live in anticipation for a day unlike any a person has ever experienced.
- It is not weak-minded to prepare to escape a day of judgment worse than any this world has ever seen.
- It is not weak-minded to look forward to the day when all God's promises are kept.
- It is not weak-minded to believe one day all the evil of the world will be made right.
In that day, all those who have believed will be glad. All those who have not believed will bow and wish to God they had.
