Moreover it is required in stewards, that a man be found faithful.
I find three related elements in the context of this verse.
What is accounted
That he is a minister of Christ and steward of the mysteries of God. The primary responsibility of a minister is to Christ. The primary resource he is to handle is “the mysteries of God” which I take to be the Word of God.
What is required
That he be found faithful. It is not that he be found
successful. It is that he be found faithful. Our Lord told us that things would not progress well in this world. Whatever we may accomplish, it will be done not through compromise with the world. It will be accomplished through faithful commitment to the truths of the Word of God.
Who is his judge
The One who will judge his account and decide his faithfulness is the Lord. It is therefore no big deal that others judge him.
I wish to make this application then. Rather than getting bothered by people judging us, we ought to keep our attention on the fact that God is our judge. Don’t get offended that others judge. Get focused on the judgment of the LORD. Be faithful with the Word of God.
