Awake to righteousness, and sin not; for some have not the knowledge of God: I speak this to your shame.
This passage was the text of one of the first messages I preached.
It is powerful in its pathos.
It appeals to a sleeping and lethargic Christian community. If it applied two thousand years ago, imagine how much more today.
It is urgent in its mission
Some souls have no knowledge of God. I do not believe this refers to saving knowledge but instead to knowledge of how to be saved. We cannot force a soul to be saved. However, we can see to it they know how to be saved.
It is confrontational in its nature
“I speak this to your shame.” That a person hears the gospel and rejects is no shame on the witness. That no witness is given is shameful to all Christians.
