2 Corinthians 10:2 (KJV)

But I beseech you, that I may not be bold when I am present with that confidence, wherewith I think to be bold against some, which think of us as if we walked according to the flesh.

There was a sort of boldness the Apostle did not want to practice among these Christians.

There were some with whom he was not hesitant to be bold and aggressive. I take it that, in this case, they were Judaizers. They were people who resisted Paul’s ministry and taught that Christians were to incorporate Jewish practices and customs – Mosiac Law – into the course of their faith. Paul was bold against them. (I think partially because they were bold against what he taught. A teacher of the Word might accept some differences of faith. But he cannot if those who hold a different view are not gracious in return.)

The gist of this text is Paul’s concern that these Christians do not turn into those he must confront.

• He was not afraid to do it
• He did not want to do it unless necessary
