It seems to me that, while we all know that prayer is a priority and that men everywhere should pray, we focus our attention on the prayers for kings and those in authority. We focus on praying so that we might live in quietness and peace with godliness and honesty.
And the Word of God assures us that this is good and acceptable in the sight of God.
But wait!
The Bible says, first of all, to pray for all men.
Could it be that we skip over all men in prayer so we can get to praying for our authorities? Could it be that before prayer for kings and other leaders is effective, we ought to pour more earnest prayer “for all men?” Could the Calvinist, for instance, hinders his prayer life because his doctrines incline him to forget those he believes are not the elect?
“…first of all, supplications, prayer, intercessions, and giving of thanks be made for all men .”
