Meditate upon these things; give thyself wholly to them; that thy profiting may appear to all.
The passage is, of course, written,
First to Timothy
He is the original audience and the intended recipient of this letter and the next. Apostle Paul had him in mind as he wrote these words.
To all those in ministry
Apostle Paul was the penman, but the Holy Spirit of God is the author. We call these the “pastoral epistles” because they provide specific instructions for those in the ministry.
To all Christians
It must never be accepted that the average believer is let off while those in the ministry are held to a higher standard. The preacher is to be an example. This explicitly implies that the congregation is to follow the example.
Now to my point
The Word of God says, “give thyself wholly to them.” The great need of our day is for Christians, preachers included, who are given wholly to the things of God. This is a spiritual battle. It cannot be won by Christians who haven’t suited up, armored up, and exercised in godliness.
