If any man teach otherwise, and consent not to wholesome words, even the words of our Lord Jesus Christ, and to the doctrine which is according to godliness;
He is proud, knowing nothing, but doting about questions and strifes of words, whereof cometh envy, strife, railings, evil surmisings,
Perverse disputings of men of corrupt minds, and destitute of the truth, supposing that gain is godliness: from such withdraw thyself.
Those wholesome words are the words of the Lord Jesus Christ, which I take to be more than the “red letter” verses, but every Word of God.
- Only they are wholesome
- They are all wholesome
- They are only wholesome and nothing else
We all know people who would disagree.
- Some of them have no experience with the Word of God and the faith.
- Some have grown up in the Word of God and faith and have walked away from it.
According to the Bible, those wholesome words of which we speak,
- They are proud
- They know nothing
- They ask questions only to cause strife
- Their opinions are “evil surmisings”
- They have corrupt minds
- They are destitute of the truth
- They have rejected godliness with contentment
We are to withdraw from them.[1]
The wholesome Words of God tell us to withdraw from them.
[1] Of course, this does not mean we do not love them. We long for them to come to or to be restored to the Lord and to the faith.
