Titus 2:8 (KJV) How To Speak Soundly

Titus 2:8 (KJV)

Sound speech, that cannot be condemned; that he that is of the contrary part may be ashamed, having no evil thing to say of you.

The passage undoubtedly tells us to be an example in our speech so that the unbeliever or contrary person has nothing evil to say of us. Some will condemn just about anything. They would likely even disagree with a believer about sound speech.

Here’s how I believe we get out this instruction.

Speak in such a way as God would call it sound
He is, after all, our final judge. Be cautious with this. I am not advocating the attitude “You can’t judge me, only God can.” mentality. In most cases, the one who argues that, behaves in a manner convincing me that they do not believe God will ever judge them. Not true. God is our final judge.

We must therefore fear the Lord.
Speak in such a way that the contrary has no genuinely evil thing to say about you

They might make up something evil to say about you. Some people did that to Jesus. They might say something about you they think is evil, but believers understand otherwise. The false accusers of Christ could only come up with an accusation regarding tearing down the Temple and Him rebuilding it in three days. They misunderstood which temple He referred to, and, in fact, He did rebuild it in three days.

We stand alone before God. Live with that in mind, and you’ll learn to speak soundly.
