And the LORD said, Judah shall go up: behold, I have delivered the land into his hand.
They say, “hindsight is 20/20.”
Since I know where the Bible will take this, I find here a Biblical foreshadowing of what would be the will of God; that the tribe of Judah would be the leading-ruling family.
Leaders lead before they rule.
Once Joshua was dead, and the people found themselves in need of leadership, the Lord directed them to Judah. Though the judges would come from various tribes, and they would have been better off under them, having God as their king, Israel could have known this would be the final outcome. It had already been foretold the scepter would not depart from Judah.[1]
How dull are our eyes!
We have the very Word of God. We may even be faithful and diligent in studying it. But we so often miss the obvious. Our hearts, our culture, and our preferences lead us to excuse away the Word of God in favor of what we believe will be more effective, comfortable, and popular.
Lord, help us!
[1] Genesis 49:10 (KJV)
The sceptre shall not depart from Judah, nor a lawgiver from between his feet, until Shiloh come; and unto him shall the gathering of the people be.
