An evil disease, say they, cleaveth fast unto him: and now that he lieth he shall rise up no more.
Psalms 41:9 (KJV)
Yea, mine own familiar friend, in whom I trusted, which did eat of my bread, hath lifted up hisheel against me.
Verse nine is connected to Christ through John 13:18 (KJV)
I speak not of you all: I know whom I have chosen: but that the scripture may be fulfilled, He that eateth bread with me hath lifted up his heel against me.
Therefore verse eight should be applied as well. Though they crucified Jesus, though they believed they had defeated Him. Though they did all they could have to ensure that once he was down and, in the grave, He would remain there. They believed He would rise up no more.
They were wrong.
41:10 (KJV)
But thou, O LORD, be merciful unto me, and raise me up, that I may requite them.
Jesus rose again. And in doing so, He “paid them back.”
- Those who trust in Him are redeemed.
- Those who do not are judged.
How often in life we might feel like we’ve fallen and will never rise again.
- Through Christ there is always hope.
- In Christ there is always heaven to come.
