1 John 5:7 (KJV) The Battle for Accuracy

1 John 5:7 (KJV)

For there are three that bear record in heaven, the Father, the Word, and the Holy Ghost: and these three are one.

I’ve been thinking how important words are in communication, especially with the Word of God. The Bible says, 1 John 5:1 (KJV)
Whosoever believeth that Jesus is the Christ is born of God: and every one that loveth him that begat loveth him also that is begotten of him.

But this either is obviously not true or else it does not mean what some have come to think it means. The Words “believeth” and “Christ” are key.

Believe means so much more than a mental acknowledgement of the account.
Paul said he had committed his soul’s keeping to Christ and was persuaded He is able to do it.

Christ means so much more than a name
I heard Ben Shapiro and Bill Craig debate over Jesus. Shapiro’s Jewish concept of Messiah is that he is a political leader. Craig tried to point out that Jesus Christ went beyond that and is very God.

Now we come this this verse, which is missing from every version of the Bible except the King James Version. Missing – they all say it is not in the Bible. I say that such debates that claim the Bible can be 98% accurate and still be reliable have reduced the Bible to a merely man-made document, a piece of history. They have reduced it to a tool of religion rather than the communication of almighty God. God, by His nature, wouldn’t give us a book that is not accurate 100% of the time.

Either 1 John 5:7 is the Word of God or the book that holds it[1] is not from God. If it is the Word of God, then every book that omits it[2] is not from God.

  • We cannot play with what “believe” means
  • We cannot play with who “Christ” is and
  • We cannot play with the text of the Word of God
