Thou shalt yet plant vines upon the mountains of Samaria: the planters shall plant, and shall eat them as common things.
Jeremiah had in mind the day when Judah would return from the Babylonian captivity and return to their own land.[1] But God had something greater than even that in mind. Internal evidence tells us God was looking to the birth of Christ.[2] He even speaks, not just of Judah but of all Israel.[3]
I believe there are good reasons to rejoice in the little blessings the Lord rewards us with in this earthly life. These blessings encourage and strengthen us, cheering the heart and motivating us to “keep on keeping on.” Little answers to prayer remind us that our God has not forsaken us. However, it is essential to remember that these blessings are not the end-all of God's plan. If we are not careful, we can become so attached to these "little blessings" that we lose sight of the full answer of God.
Remember that at the end of the captivity, it was not all Israel but only Judah that returned to the Promised Land. They returned as a broken and weakened people. While the young men rejoiced in having a temple once again, the old men wept, having seen the glory of Solomon's former temple.[4] It was never the same, and it won't be until they receive the promise of the Millennial Kingdom.
I've heard that gold prospectors, who know their business, realize that the gold nuggets in the riverbed mean there is a gold vein somewhere up the river. The prospector pans the river not just for the flakes, bits, and nuggets he finds but to lead them to "the mother lode."
Christians, don't settle for the flakes of God's blessings handed to you today. Remember that even the lost receive some of that.[5]
Pursue your relationship with the Lord, looking for the day when you will see the end of those promises, which is the very presence of Jesus Christ.

eremiah 31:5 (KJV) Nuggets in the River
[1] Jeremiah 31:17 (KJV)
And there is hope in thine end, saith the LORD, that thy children shall come again to their own border.
[2] Jeremiah 31:22 (KJV)
How long wilt thou go about, O thou backsliding daughter? for the LORD hath created a new thing in the earth, A woman shall compass a man.
[3] Jeremiah 31:7 (KJV)
For thus saith the LORD; Sing with gladness for Jacob, and shout among the chief of the nations: publish ye, praise ye, and say, O LORD, save thy people, the remnant of Israel.
[4] Ezra 3:11-12 (KJV)
And they sang together by course in praising and giving thanks unto the LORD; because he is good, for his mercy endureth for ever toward Israel. And all the people shouted with a great shout, when they praised the LORD, because the foundation of the house of the LORD was laid.
But many of the priests and Levites and chief of the fathers, who were ancient men, that had seen the first house, when the foundation of this house was laid before their eyes, wept with a loud voice; and many shouted aloud for joy:
[5] Matthew 5:45 (KJV)
That ye may be the children of your Father which is in heaven: for he maketh his sun to rise on the evil and on the good, and sendeth rain on the just and on the unjust.
