And when they had lifted up their eyes, they saw no man, save Jesus only.
It is common among men to make much of men. It’s. It too difficult for a Christian to put some preacher, Bible teacher, or spiritual leader on nearly the same plain as the Lord. Islam puts Jesus on a lower plane than the man, Mohammed.
Peter, James, and John did something similar with Moses and Elias. On the mount of transfiguration, they proposed making three tabernacles: one for Moses, one for Elias, and one for Jesus - as if Jesus were on the same level as those two. God the Father put an abrupt stop to that. At the rebuke of God, Peter, James, and John fell upon their faces, terrified.
It was Jesus who touched them and assured them.
· Not Moses
· Not Elias
And it Jesus only who was present.
I am thankful for the ministry of Moses in his time. I am equally grateful for the ministry of Elijah, and the one who followed him in announcing Christ, John the Baptist. But no man can make us right with God the Father “save Jesus only.” It is Jesus I long to lift my eyes to see.
