Mark 7:6 (KJV) The Deity Debate

Mark 7:6 (KJV)

He answered and said unto them, Well hath Esaias prophesied of you hypocrites, as it is written, This people honoureth me with their lips, but their heart is far from me.

A person must purposefully choose to ignore all the scripture that tells us Jesus is God. Some, for instance, claim Jesus was a god or, as Islam asserts, the son of God but not God Himself. But the gospels are filled with evidence of the deity of Christ and His claim to be God. This passage is one of them.

Notice:

The passage begins with a question about Jesus’ disciples:

Mark 7:5 (KJV)

Then the Pharisees and scribes asked him, Why walk not thy disciples according to the tradition of the elders, but eat bread with unwashen hands?

Jesus immediately applies the Word of God to the question:

Mark 7:6-7 (KJV)

He answered and said unto them, Well hath Esaias prophesied of you hypocrites, as it is written, This people honoureth me with theirlips, but their heart is far from me.

Howbeit in vain do they worship me, teaching fordoctrines the commandments of men.

Notice too the text He applied. He uses the first person, “me.” It’s not difficult to see that:

·       He claims to be the God they worship with their lips.

·       He claims to be the God of this text.

·       He claims to be the God of the Bible.

Jesus is the second Person of the Trinity, the Messiah promised throughout the Scriptures, the voice of God that spoke all things into existence.

He is all of that, or He is not our Saviour.
