Luke 20:4 (KJV) A Closer Look

Luke 20:4 (KJV)

The baptism of John, was it from heaven, or of men?

It interests me how dismissive Christians are of John the Baptist and his baptism. We are so prone to accept a thing without contemplating that when a truth that goes against what we have assumed is presented, we dismiss it, often without a thought.

The evolutionist does this.

Having generally been brought up under evolutionist teaching, to be presented with something other must mean that the other is patently wrong - crazy - uninformed.

The Catholic/Protestant System does this.

It is so commonly understood that Catholicism is the first Christian church and that all Christians not Catholics are Protestants. To be introduced to the Baptist belief that the Catholic system was man-made some 300 years after Jesus built HIS church must mean that this belief is patently wrong - crazy - uninformed.

The believers in the universal, invisible church do this.

It is so widely believed that all Christians, at the moment of salvation, are baptized by the Spirit into the invisible body of Christ. It must mean that those who teach that the only church in the Bible is a local congregation must be patently wrong - crazy - uninformed.

And the same is done with John the Baptist.

He is so frequently dismissed in modern Christianity that to make much of a baptism authorized by God only for believers, only by immersion, and only under the authority of a scriptural local church must be patently wrong - crazy - uninformed.

Jesus made a big deal of the baptism of John, submitting Himself to it. It was more than once the dividing line in His ministry between glorifying God or rejecting the counsel of God.

I counsel every sincere Christian, of whatsoever faith, to investigate the position of those Baptists who still preach that the baptism of John is from heaven.
