Romans 11:4 (KJV) Our True Hero

Romans 11:4 (KJV)

But what saith the answer of God unto him? I have reserved to myself seven thousand men, who have not bowed the knee to the image of Baal.

Elias[1] was a godly man and continues to be an example for believers today. We learn so much about faithfulness, prayerfulness, and godly determination from him. But he was a man of like passions, no better than we are.[2] He was a man called by the Lord and surrendered to God, but he was still a man, not God. Therefore, our hero must not be Elijah but God. Regardless of what “Elias” said, felt, thought, or did, the end of the matter is “what saith the answer of God?”

We are so prone to set up heroes, to pattern our lives after men or women we admire. It is good to have teachers, mentors, life coaches, and influencers. God never made us to be lone wolves. He made us to be sheep, assembled into a flock and under the protection of a shepherd. But here’s the thing: none of those men or women should get in the way of God.

No matter what your hero, mentor, life coach, or influencer tells you, you must eventually settle your course on this: “what saith the answer of God?”

- It is your soul liberty.

- It is your soul responsibility.

We will all stand before God and give an account of ourselves.[3] Be sure you know what God has said. He said it in the Bible.

Our True Hero: What Saith the Answer of God?

[1] A modernized form of Elijah.

[2] James 5:17 (KJV)

Elias was a man subject to like passions as we are, and he prayed earnestly that it might not rain: and it rained not on the earth by the space of three years and six months.

[3] Romans 14:12 (KJV)

So then every one of us shall give account of himself to God.
