And if Christ be not risen, then is our preaching vain, and your faith is also vain.
The fulcrum of faith is the resurrection of Jesus Christ. It matters very little what else you believe or what else you practice if you miss the resurrection of Jesus Christ.
Of course, along with the resurrection comes a whole host of ancillary truths:
The death of Christ.
He did not swoon. He was dead, buried. In the grave three days and three nights.
The deity of Christ.
He is not merely a good teacher or the last prophet. He is not a god. He is not a man created by God. Jesus is very God. He is the beginning and the end. He is the fulness of the Godhead bodily.
The propitiation of Christ.
His resurrection is the just satisfaction for all the sins of mankind for all time. No man needs to atone for their own sins. Indeed, no man can atone for his sins. Christ’s death, burial, and resurrection can save to the uttermost all who come to Him.
But we must come to Him. He is the fulcrum. He is the point of satisfaction. He is our Saviour, or else we are not saved.
If Christ be not risen, the work of the ministry is vain, and faith in Christ is equally vain.
But the opposite is also true. If Christ is risen, then:
- Everything He said about the Bible is true.
- Everything He said about eternity is true.
- Everything He said about Himself and His Father is true.
If Christ is risen, as He said, then there is none other name under heaven, given among men, whereby we must be saved.
