Then fourteen years after I went up again to Jerusalem with Barnabas, and took Titus with me also.
“Let’s bring an object lesson.”
The event Paul speaks of is the one recorded in Acts 15. Consider that this was very early in church history. It had been established that Gentiles could be saved as well as Jews, but the question of how “Jewish” Gentile Christians ought to become was still very much in debate. Titus, a Greek, had not embraced any of those Jewish traditions.
Would this council influence Titus or the other way around?
Acts 15 doesn’t mention Titus, but Paul tells us that Titus was not compelled to be circumcised. We know from Acts 15 that the church in Jerusalem sent letters and witnesses with Paul and Barnabas, stating that the Gentiles should not be burdened with Jewish traditions.
- Titus was not circumcised.
- Jerusalem wrote letters.
- Judas and Silas escorted them to confirm the decision of the brethren.
And still, there were Judaizers who resisted. Even today, some professing Christians are drawn to Jewish legalism.
The lesson is simple:
Those who choose to reject the truth will do so regardless of the witness before them.
The application is equally simple:
The believer accepts the sound testimony of the Bible.

Call to Action
- Are there areas in your life where you are allowing traditions or external expectations to take precedence over the truth of the Bible?
- Will you commit today to standing firm in the sound testimony of Scripture?
