And Abraham said unto him, Beware thou that thou bring not my son thither again.
There are, I believe, issues of separation at play in this account. But there is more. There are also issues of faith.
Abraham understood Isaac ought not marry from among the women around which they lived. Obedience to the Lord had placed them in such a way that, while it would have been essential for Isaac to marry for God’s promise to be fulfilled, there was simply no way for him to be obedient to God and marry from among the women of the land.
A miracle must be performed.
There was a ministry to be done and service to be accomplished, but in this case, it would not be Abraham or Isaac doing the work.
A servant would be sent.
Isaac would remain in the Promised Land, and just as God provided a ram in the thicket, He would provide a bride from Abraham’s family.
"But" asked the servant, "what if she will not come? Shouldn’t I take Isaac with me?"
Abraham was so sure of God’s plan that he would not permit Isaac to go and assured the servant he would be released from the obligation if the woman refused to come marry Isaac sight unseen.
Here’s the lesson: So very often we step into disobedience to God, and we miss the blessing of God because we cannot or will not trust God to keep His Word without our disobedience. The corrupt logic of the human mind[1] refuses to believe God can work the way God has laid things out in the Bible.
Abraham was willing to risk no bride for Isaac – and thus no promised Messiah through his seed - rather than allow for Isaac to walk away from the Promised Land of God.
We would see God fulfill great promises in our lives if we would only be willing to live without His promises rather than live in disobedience to Him.
