And Abraham hearkened unto Ephron; and Abraham weighed to Ephron the silver, which he had named in the audience of the sons of Heth, four hundred shekels of silver, current money with the merchant.
God gave all the land of Canaan to Abraham. Ephron was willing to give the cave to Abraham, but Abraham insisted on buying it.
I’ve been reflecting on the fact that, though God gave the Promised Land to Israel, it was through human actions that they possess it today. Israel pays for the possession of that land almost every day, often with the price of their blood.
God gives us many priceless treasures. People around us are often willing to be generous to us because of our faith, though perhaps less so these days.
We would likely have a much better testimony in this world if we refused the gifts of men and, acknowledging the precious gifts God has given us, behaved in a more generous manner ourselves.
God is. God is powerful. God is good to us.
Religion manipulates people; God frees them.
