That being justified by his grace, we should be made heirs according to the hope of eternal life.
Justified, saved, pronounced innocent:
· Not by works that we have done,
· Not by the consequence of regeneration and the new man,
We are justified by grace. The gift of salvation is freely, unconditionally, and irrevocably provided by virtue of Christ alone.
· We do not earn our justification.
· We do not prove our justification.
· We only gratefully receive our justification.
Justification is a gracious act of God, determined long before we were born (not in the sense that we were elected to be justified before we were born, but that God had determined how we would be justified before the foundation of the world), made real when we come to faith, and rooted in Christ’s work—not our own.
