Revelation 15:1 (KJV) The Seven Last Plagues

Revelation 15:1 (KJV)

And I saw another sign in heaven, great and marvellous, seven angels having the seven last plagues; for in them is filled up the wrath of God.

I’m centering in on the word “last” in the phrase “seven last plagues.”

Consider the various plagues recorded in the Bible. Though I do not intend to be exhaustive, I can think immediately of the plagues in Egypt, plagues that struck Israel in the wilderness, and others that struck them over their history in the Promised Land.

There were various famous plagues in history; bubonic plague is said to have killed 75% of the world’s population between AD 1334-1353. Measles, smallpox, tuberculosis, and others have devastated whole communities in past centuries. The flu, or complications from it, continue still to take countless lives yearly. The Spanish flu of the early 1900s is said to have taken more lives than World War I. We all remember how COVID-19 impacted our world.

In a way, each of these plagues could be attributed to the wrath of God because “the wages of sin is death.”[1] Sin entered this world through the disobedience of Adam,[2] and humankind has been paying its awful price ever since. Mind you, God is loving and gracious. He has paid for our sin in the blood of His own Son, Jesus. He has promised reconciliation to all who come to Him through Christ, and He has a planned end to this vexing enmity between God and man.

We have here then “the seven last plagues” and the end of the wrath of God.

Believer - find hope right here!

Unbeliever - be warned but be moved.

There is still time for you to be rescued, reconciled, and redeemed if you will but come to Jesus.

The Seven Last Plagues: A Final Warning and a Hopeful Call

[1] Romans 6:23 (KJV)

For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.

[2] Romans 5:19 (KJV)

For as by one man's disobedience many were made sinners, so by the obedience of one shall many be made righteous.
