Revelation 16:6 (KJV) Wickedness and Worthiness

Revelation 16:6 (KJV)

For they have shed the blood of saints and prophets, and thou hast given them blood to drink; for they are worthy.

This is, I think, one of our world’s biggest arguments against God. The more wicked our world becomes; the less worthy of judgment they believe they are.

Consider the case of capital punishment.

It is very nearly outlawed in every state of the Union now. The only places that still have it are those ultra-conservative states, and even then, its practice is limited. Occasionally, you’ll hear of a murderer sentenced where even the family of the victim pleads for him to be spared from the death penalty. It’s like it’s expected for Christians to forgive the murderer. I am for forgiveness, but forgiveness is not pardon.

The more natural/rational/biblical position is justice.

The purpose of justice is not revenge. It is preventative. Justice restrains the sin nature. Those who might have committed violent crimes may be less likely if they are aware that the penalty is severe. As liberal politics become more dominant, less crime is punished. The result has been a rise in crime. When, in those rare cases, a criminal is brought to justice, the families of the criminal become upset.

They do not believe they are worthy of being judged.

We have examples all around our country now where those being held accountable are not the criminals, but those responsible to stop the criminals.

Wickedness does not believe wickedness is worthy of justice.

But God is just.

One day in the future, perhaps the very near future, the wrath and righteous judgment of God will be unleashed upon wickedness.

And the angels will say of those thus judged, “they are worthy.”

We, who believe the Bible, agree.
