But we speak the wisdom of God in a mystery, even the hidden wisdom, which God ordained before the world unto our glory:
One of the things I’ve often heard Christians express frustration over is how what seems so evident to us is so difficult for non-Christians—or even professing Christians who are worldly—to accept, agree with, or understand. Paul explains it plainly.
The wisdom of the Word is for those who are “perfect.”
In other words, it’s for the saved and for the maturing, growing Christian.
It’s not the wisdom of the world or of the princes and thought leaders of this world.
Their wisdom comes to nought. It has no lasting value. It changes with the times and cultures. Though it might impress people for a moment, it will fade into nothing in the face of eternity.
The wisdom of God is a mystery.
More than that, it is hidden from the natural man.
It’s not that they can never know it—but they must surrender to God before it becomes revealed to them.
And here, I think, is the key to why we get so frustrated with those who don’t seem to grasp the truth we see as self-evident:
Just as they must surrender to God before they can see these truths, we must surrender to the fact that these truths will remain a mystery to them until they do.
We cannot force truth on anyone. They must first surrender to God before they can receive the wisdom of His Word.
