1 Corinthians 1:9 (KJV) God Is Faithful: A Lifetime of Proof

1 Corinthians 1:9 (KJV)

God is faithful, by whom ye were called unto the fellowship of his Son Jesus Christ our Lord.

God is faithful.
It’s a phrase we use often in our faith—and it is absolutely true.

After 48 years since I was saved, I can attest to His faithfulness. Even in times when I was less than faithful to Him... times when my faith was tested... times when it seemed no one else—or at least very few—were faithful. Yet God has always been faithful.

  • He has provided our needs.
  • He has opened doors of service.
  • He has helped us understand His Word.
  • He has given us a family of believers for encouragement.

God has been faithful.

But I want us to consider that this phrase has context.
When Paul said, “God is faithful,” here’s what he meant:

Faithful in Calling and Saving
1 Corinthians 1:2 (KJV)
Unto the church of God which is at Corinth, to them that are sanctified in Christ Jesus, called to be saints…
This is salvation. “Called to be saints” speaks of our calling in Christ. “Sanctified in Christ” points to the Lord’s continuing work in those who are saved.

Faithful in Giving Understanding of His Word
1 Corinthians 1:5 (KJV)
That in every thing ye are enriched by him, in all utterance, and in all knowledge;
God does not leave us in the dark. He gives His Word, He grants understanding of it, and He enables us to be taught and to teach others.

Faithful in Gifting for Ministry
1 Corinthians 1:7 (KJV)
So that ye come behind in no gift; waiting for the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ:
Paul is pointing to spiritual gifts that edify and strengthen the local church where God has placed us.

Faithful in His Promised Return
1 Corinthians 1:8 (KJV)
Who shall also confirm you unto the end, that ye may be blameless in the day of our Lord Jesus Christ.

As we wait for the return of our Lord Jesus Christ, we not only have the opportunity to serve but also the assurance that He will keep that which we’ve committed to Him—our eternal souls—until the day of His coming.
