Yea, and all that will live godly in Christ Jesus shall suffer persecution.
Wow! Could a chapter be more negative or pessimistic than this? It paints a horrible picture of the future—a picture that has certainly proven true ever since. Oh, there are waves of better times in the accounts of history (which, at the time of the writing of this passage, were still future), but
- The ages past were indeed dark.
- There is darkness now. And the indications are,
- It will grow even darker
—just as this passage foretells.
The atheist, the irreligious, and the unbiblical spiritualist will all point to some seed of goodness and place their hope in better days, based on education, enlightenment, and freedom from the “oppression” of fundamentalist-style faith.
I believe the Bible.
I believe they are wrong.
But even in this dark chapter, there is hope.
Verse 11: “Out of them all the Lord delivered me.”
Verse 15: “Wise unto salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus.”
Verse 17: “Throughly furnished unto all good works.”
Our hope is salvation through Christ, as taught in the Word of God.
Our help and light in this darkness is the Bible—breathed out and delivered to us from God Himself.

The Bible Still Shines in Dark Times: Keep Hope Alive in Perilous Days
🌑 Dark days are here—and they’re getting darker. But God’s Word promised it long ago. 2 Timothy 3:12 says, “Yea, and all that will live godly in Christ Jesus shall suffer persecution.” Yet even in the storm, we’re not without hope.
