But grow in grace, and in the knowledge of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. To him be glory both now and for ever. Amen.
The tiny word “but” at the beginning of this verse serves as a conjunction, uniting it with the previous: 2 Peter 3:17 (KJV) Ye therefore, beloved, seeing ye know these things before, beware lest ye also, being led away with the error of the wicked, fall from your own stedfastness.
I see a few lessons here to keep us from “being led away with the error of the wicked,” so that we don’t “fall from your own stedfastness.”
We are reminded of the things we’ve known before.
I take this to mean primarily what we have in the Word of God. The Apostle has already, in this chapter, equated the writings of himself, the other apostles, and Paul with those of the Old Testament prophets. They are Scripture.
The careful, consistent, and faith-filled study of the Bible is the surest way to avoid being led astray.
I would take this a step further and suggest that we also remember the things we were once taught by our pastors and teachers. Too much of modern Christianity discards what we used to believe and teach.
We are urged to grow—both in grace and in the knowledge of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ.
Consider that this growth is meant to prevent us from being led away and falling.
Growth that pulls us away from the truths, practices, and graces we once held is not true growth—that's called apostasy.
True growth does not cast aside those early truths—it builds upon them.
Beware of men, movements, or even personal motivations that lead you away from what you once held to be true.

Warning and a Way Forward: The Dangers of Leaving What You Were Once Taught
🚨 Are You Growing or Drifting?
2 Peter 3:18 tells us to “grow in grace, and in the knowledge of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ.” But verse 17 warns us—don’t fall from your own stedfastness!
In a time when many are throwing away what they once believed, real growth builds on truth—not away from it.
📖 Stay rooted in God's Word. Stand firm in what you’ve been taught. Don’t follow the error of the wicked.
